UFC: UFC welterweight Alex “Cowboy” Olivera suffers injury due to grenade fragments
UFC featherweight Alex “Cowboy” Olivera underwent surgery today after injuries sustained via grenade fragments. The story goes is that Olivera went to get gas for his mother’s car where shortly after an altercation broke out between his family and another party which lead to a grenade being thrown in his direction.
Following the incident, Alex Olivera went to the hospital in his native Tres Rios, Brazil to have grenade fragments removed from his leg. Alex Olivera recounted the situation in an interview with Globo saying “One guy came up and pointed a gun at my nephew’s face, and that’s when people started pushing each other. “They had machetes, knives, a grenade. They threw a grenade in my direction. Fragments flew to my leg and my foot.”
Alex “Cowboy” Olivera (19-6-1-2) recently fought at UFC 231 two-weeks ago in a winning effort against Gunnar Nelson. It is currently unknown as to how long Cowboy Olivera will be sidelined following his minor surgical procedure.
