2019 MLB Free Agent Relief Pitchers
Kelvin Herrera: Signed with the Chicago White Sox on a two-year, $18 million dollar contract. (1/7/2019)
- What a way to round out your bullpen with the addition of Kelvin Herrera. This offseason, the Chicago White Sox went out to be in the running for big name free agents and they were able to strengthen the bullpen with Alex Colome but Herrera is the cherry-on-top. Herrera, 29, was dealt to Washington last summer in which saw a big turn around as he flopped for the Nationals as he finished 2018 with a 4.55 ERA with Washington alone. He will look to bounce back in 2019 as Colome’s setup man.
Jesse Chavez: Signed with the Texas Rangers on a 2-year, $8 million dollar contract. (11/27/2018)
- Journeymen… Jesse Chavez. Chavez will be making his second stint with the Texas Rangers as last year he joined the team but was later traded to the Chicago Cubs at the trade deadline. Chavez, 35, is notable for being versatile as he can be used in both the bullpen and in the rotation if needed to be, both needs for the Rangers. We would predict that the Rangers would use him out of the bullpen in 2019.
Tyler Clippard: Signed with the Cleveland Indians on a minor league contract. (2/23/2019)
- It has taken it all the way to the third game of spring to get a contract for Tyler Clippard. In 2018, Clippard spent the season with the Blue Jays where he gave up a career high 13 home runs which probably distanced some teams. Clippard is now getting a chance with his 9th team in his MLB career and he could very well be in a good situation with Cleveland to crack a spot on the roster as the team lost key componets this past offseason.
