Rumors of a potential fire sale this offseason for the Mariners could possibly come true, as James Paxton is being linked in possible trades.
Yesterday, the New York Yankees through their name in the hat as a team in pursuit of James Paxton and now the Houston Astros are in pursuit as well.
Both Houston and New York are both targeting pitching this offseason more so the Yankees. The Yankees will not have CC Sabathia after 2019, the team is listening to offers on an underperforming Sonny Gray so getting more long-term options is what is in the plans for the Yankees. As for Houston, they will be without Lance McCullers due to Tommy John Surgery and Charlie Morton is a free agent. The Astros could use Paxton as a backend of the rotation pitcher.
Last season, James Paxton had another productive season which saw him reach another 130+ innings. He finished 2018 with an 11-6 record, 3.76 ERA and 208 strikeouts.
