MLB.com’s Joe Frisario spoke with Miami Marlins president Michael Hill saying that the team plan’s to open contract negotiations with rising catcher J.T. Realmuto this winter.
In the interview, Hill stated that “It’s no secret, I think J.T. knows how we feel about him, He had a tremendous season, an All-Star season. It’s great to see his talent finally being recognized throughout the industry. As I’ve I said consistently, we want him to be a part of what we’re doing in the long term.”
This season, J.T. Realmuto reeled in another productive season having a batting line of .277/.340/.825 to go along with 21 home runs and 74 RBI’s. His home run and RBI numbers were both career highs.
Realmuto, 27, is still under Marlins control for the next two seasons before landing in free agency in 2020.
