Here are today’s updates on the upcoming MLB free agent signing period.
Houston Astros: The Houston Astros are interested in free agent catcher Jonathan Lucroy. The Houston Astros are looking to split-time behind the plate 2018 by the looks of it. According to Jon Heyman, Jonathan Lucroy is interested in playing at Minute Maid Park so quite possibly Lucroy could end up in Houston at a cheap price.
Los Angeles Angels: The Los Angeles Angels are keeping tabs on infielders Zack Cozart and Neil Walker. One of the biggest holes on this team sits at second base where they currently have backup at best Kaleb Cowart. The Angels are targeting Cozart as a second baseman as he has spent his entire MLB career as a shortstop. As for Neil Walker, a natural second baseman is coming off another solid season batting .265/.362/.439 between the Mets and Brewers in 2017. The Angels will be heavily targeting the infield during free agency.
Baltimore Orioles: The Baltimore Orioles are expressing interest in free agent Tyler Chatwood. This offseason, the Baltimore Orioles decided to part ways with Wade Miley and Chris Tillman, leaving massive holes in their rotation. Tyler Chatwood, 27, is coming off a down year in 2017 which saw him have an ERA of 4.69, 8-15 record in 33 games. Chatwood would be a backend of the rotation pitcher for a team in 2017. Tampa Bay Rays: The Tampa Bay Rays are interested in outfielder Jose Bautista. According to Jon Morosi, this is the second time the Tampa Bay Rays and Bautista have been linked to each other. Last year, the two had discussions but nothing came about after Jose Bautista decided to go back to Toronto on a one-year contract. This time around, Jose Bautista is looking at exploring new positions including first base and third base. Jose Bautista, 37, is nearing the tail-end of his career so he won’t land a big deal on the free agent market.
