According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Ichiro Suzuki’s agent has reached out to the Oakland Athletics about possibly playing for the team in 2018.
Ichiro Suzuki, 44, now a bench piece at this current stage in his career had his $2 million club option declined making him a free agent. Over the past three seasons, Ichiro played for the Miami Marlins and during his tenure, he got his 500th stolen base (2016), recorded his 4,257 career hit (2016) and scored his 1400th run (2017).
Should the Athletics sign Ichiro it would reconciliation with his former coach Bob Melvin who he played for back in his days with the Seattle Mariners. Should the interest be mutual and a deal is struck Ichiro is nothing more than a reserve outfielder. We will continue to keep tabs on Ichiro this offseason!
