ALBANY- Albany AFL announce that veteran sports executive George Manias has been named Vice President, Business Operations for Albany AFL and will run the day-to-day business operations for the team.
Manias, originally from Catskill, NY where he graduated from Catskill High School and then graduated from SUNY Delhi, is a 30-year sports executive veteran. He is coming from the Pittsburgh Penguins where he oversaw their partnership sales as the Senior Director, Partnership Sales for the team. Today will mark his first full day for Albany AFL. George and the entire Albany AFL front office staff offices will be at the Times Union Center.
“The ability to bring my years of sports experience back home and be part of creating what we expect to be an amazing asset to the community is surreal to me,” said Manias. “I love the Arena Football League, I love the Capital Region, and I am ecstatic to get started. Our staff will have a ton of energy and enthusiasm that will trickle down to the entire fan base and all of our corporate partners.”
“I could not have dreamt of finding a better fit for this position than George,” said John Adams, Albany AFL President. “George and I had the opportunity to work together in 2008 when we were part of launching the Cleveland Gladiators. I know first-hand what he brings to the table and I am confident he will run this organization in a way that will make the Capital Region proud. Albany AFL fans should be excited we were able to attract somebody of George’s caliber.”
In addition to his time with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Manias has also held the positions of; Vice President for Legends Global Sales (owned by the Dallas Cowboys & NY Yankees), Regional Vice President for Front Row Marketing Services, Vice President, National Sales & General Manager for Global Entertainment Marketing Services/Central Hockey League, Director of Corporate Sales for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays (MLB) & Tampa Bay Lightning (NHL), Vice President of Corporate Sales for the Cleveland Cavaliers (NBA) and President for the Saginaw Gears of the International Hockey League.
