The Los Angeles Dodgers will decline Andre Ethier‘s big $17.5 million dollar contract for 2018, making him a free agent.
Andre Ethier, 35, has taken huge steps back over the past couple of seasons due in part to numerous injuries derailing him. This past season, Ethier played in only 22 games during the regular season due to a herniated disc sustained in spring training. Andre Either returned to the Dodgers lineup in September but was limited to only 34 at-bats and finished the season with .235 average with 2 home runs and 3 RBI’s.
The decision to not re-sign Ethier does not come as a shock as the injuries and the amount of money they can save and use toward free agency. Andre Ethier will get a chance with another team this winter but a roster spot won’t be guaranteed. Ethier will receive a $2.5 million dollar buyout.
