The Arizona Diamondbacks have boosted their outfield up in a big way as they acquired J.D. Martinez from the Detroit Tigers.
J.D. Martinez, 29, has had his name brought up in trade talks for a while now and the Detroit Tigers decided to pull the plug on a trade with not much in return. In return for J.D. Martinez, the Tigers acquire three prospects in Dawel Lugo, Sergio Alcantara, and Jose King. The biggest name of the three prospects headed to Detroit is Dawal Lugo. Dawal Lugo, 22, was the Arizona Diamondbacks #2 prospect in their farm system who packs a solid bat but will not blow you out of the water in home run’s a per year. Dawal Lugo currently has a slash line of .282/.325/.428 in 88 games with AA-Jackson.
J.D. Martinez will join the Diamondbacks and will take over for the injured Yasmany Tomas in left field. What the plan for Yasmany Tomas once he comes back is not yet determined but the impending free agent Martinez should be a big contributor for this D-Backs lineup even if it is for a short period. J.D. Martinez has a batting line of .305/.388/1.018 in 57 games this season.
