Paul Gasol Opts-Out Of Current Contract With Spurs

This is a trend that has been going around the league and that is having big name players decline options on their contract to help their team save money. Pau Gasol is joining Kevin Durant as a player who is declining a contract option in order to save money for his team. Pau Gasol was due $16.2 million if he was to cash in but has decided to decline the option.

Adrian Wojnarowski (The Vertical) reports that Pau Gasol is expected to sign a long-term contract with San Antonio but the contract will be much cheaper. Spurs power forward David Lee has also declined his player worth $2.3 million but it is unknown if his plan is to return to the Spurs on a long-term deal, he is looking at a vet minimum of $1.4/1.5 million.
