The Atlanta Braves had a stressful day today with the announcement that they will be without Freddie Freeman due to a wrist fracture. Taking his roster spot is former Dodgers and Rays first baseman, James Loney.
James Loney entered Spring Training with the Texas Rangers but was released from the team at the end of March, Loney would later get picked up by the Tigers but they released him just last week. James Loney is joining the Braves as a depth addition but could get some spot starts every here and there as he will be splitting time with Jace Peterson at first until Freeman returns.
Update (May 22nd, 2017): Well that lasted very long. After signing James Loney just four days ago the team decided to release him. There was no clear path to the majors for Loney after acquiring Matt Adams from the St. Louis Cardinals. James Loney will now hope to latch on to another MLB team soon.
