The Fighting Illini are now entering 2017 with a fresh new start at quarterback and head coach Lovie Smith announced that Junior QB Chayce Crouch will replace quarterback Wes Lunt. In 2016, Chayce Crouch had a couple of solid spot starts for Illinois when Wes Lunt went down with an injury. Eventually, Crouch would injure his shoulder, get shoulder surgery and miss the final six games of the 2016 regular season.
Chayce Crouch has been taking it easy this offseason as he has not been doing any contact related workouts even after being cleared to resume football-related activities at 100%. Chayce and the Fighting Illini open up 2017 at home against Ball State on September 2nd.
