Here is all of your news and transactions from around Major League Baseball for February 15th.
Toronto Blue Jays (5:00 PM): The Toronto Blue Jays and pitcher Mat Latos are “far along” in contract discussions. Mat Latos is currently in the phase of his career where he is becoming a journeyman, and 2016 really put light on the “journeyman” term. Last season, Mat Latos played for both the Chicago White Sox and Washington Nationals and during his tenure with both teams he finished the year with a very frowned upon 4.89 ERA. If Mat Latos and the Blue Jays do finalize a deal he could be used out of the bullpen during the 2017 season as the Blue Jays have a plenty firm rotation.
Kansas City Royals (10:15 AM): The Kansas City Royals and free agent pitcher Travis Wood finalize their 2-year, $12 million dollar contract. Travis Wood and the Kansas City Royals were said that have agreed to the contract not to long ago but today is the day they finalize the deal. Travis Wood is coming off a very solid 2016 season in which he was used out of the bullpen for the majority of time spent with the Cubs. Upon joining the Kansas City Royals, Travis Wood will have a shot to earn a spot in the backend of the team’s rotation competing with veteran Chris Young and Nate Karns. Travis Wood’s contract carries a mutual option for 2019.
