2017 NFL Draft: Marnez Ogletree, Kansas Jayhawks

Justin David Kish: Thank you so much for your time Marnez. Can you please tell us a little bit about yourself for the fans who are not familiar with you?

Marnez Ogletree: Im a outgoing guy who is easy to talk to, and is pretty good at just about any video game lol.

Justin David Kish: You played your college ball at The University of Kansas and Fullerton College at the JUCO level. Tell us about your time playing at both colleges and what was the transition like for you making the jump from JUCO to FBS?

Marnez Ogletree: 1st off starting ball at Fullerton Junior College changed me for the better, it made me value the game of football even more than I did before. Playing football at the University of Kansas was a great experience, the fans are second to none and the atmosphere  is amazing around campus. Coach David Beaty is really changing things for the better and Kansas will be a powerhouse program soon enough.

Justin David Kish: During your college career you were coached by defensive coordinator/cornerbacks coach Kenny Perry. How has Coach Perry and the rest of the Kansas coaching staff improved you as a player during your tenure with the team?

Marnez Ogletree: Coach Kenny Perry is like a father figure to me we have a relationship on and off the field, he improved my game a lot and is a big reason I’m in the position I’m in today.

Justin David Kish: With Kansas being apart of the BIG 12 Conference you faced off against teams like Baylor, Kanas State and Oklahoma. What was one game that really brought out the best in you and really took you to your limits?

Marnez Ogletree: Every game in the BIG 12 you have to take seriously, there is no off weeks I was on top of my game every week.

Justin David Kish: The BIG 12 has some of the best receivers in football. What was one wide receiver that was a tough challenge for you?

Marnez Ogletree: To be completely honest I didn’t take any wide out I played any differently, because all of them are dynamic in this conference.

Justin David Kish: During your time in Kansas you played alongside current NFL corners JaCorey Shepherd (Eagles) and Dexter McDonald (Raiders). Are you guys still in communication and have they given you any advice?

Marnez Ogletree: They actually left before I had the opportunity to reach campus. Heard a lot of great things about those guys though.

Justin David Kish: In the years you spent in college between Fullerton and Kansas you created a number of memories. What is one memory that really stands out from the rest?

Marnez Ogletree: The memory from junior college that will stick with me forever is when we played for the national title game, and the memory that will stick with me forever at Kansas was my first practice as a Jayhawk, I had no idea the tempo was going to be so fast.

Justin David Kish: To you what does it mean to be a Kansas Jayhawk?

Marnez Ogletree: It means everything to represent the Jayhawk logo everywhere I go. It is the most recognized logo in the nation if I’m not mistaken.

Justin David Kish: You are now focusing on the NFL Draft. How have early preparations been and who are you training with?

Marnez Ogletree: Im actually training here at school for the time being, getting my degree also.

Justin David Kish: When you look at your game film what are some things you look out for?

Marnez Ogletree: I look for my stance every play to make sure I am locked in and ready to go.

Justin David Kish: What are some of your strength and weakness’s?

Marnez Ogletree: My speed in the backend is definitely one of my strengths, as far as weaknesses I can’t put that out there haha.

Justin David Kish: Being a cornerback, have you played any other positions and would you be open to switching positions at the next level?

Marnez Ogletree: I have played safety before and with a little work I’m sure i could be just as good at that position.

Justin David Kish: In the next couple of questions I am going to put you on the line. My first question. If you could compare yourself to any current professional football player who would you compare yourself to and why?

Marnez Ogletree: I would compare myself to Joe Haden, because he is technician and takes the game very seriously as do I. I try to model my style of play to his.

Justin David Kish: My next question. Why should I draft Marnez Ogletree?

Marnez Ogletree: You should draft Marnez Ogletree because you are going to get a guy who loves the game, and will do anything and everything to compete at the highest level there can be, and I learn things very quickly so you wouldn’t need to tell me things more than once.

Justin David Kish: Once again thank you so much for time and good luck in the draft process going forward!

Marnez Ogletree: Thanks man!
