2017 MLS Soccer Transfer Coverage

January 24th, 2017

Orlando City sign 30 year old USMNT defender Jonathan Spector from Championship side Birmigham City.

In that signing Orlando have the center back that they needed last season and he will probably complete the pair with Jose Aja who signed a contract extension earlier in December. So Orlando team is looking very good because with the roster that they have (which is very good) and their new build stadium it will probably bring them to the playoff for the first time.

Earlier this week Minnesota United FC reportedly said that they will begin their preseason camp even with 12 blank player space. But they now sign the player that they needed. They recently signed today Jamaican defender Jermaine Taylor from Portland (which is in the league since 2011 making a total of 129 appearances) , 25 years old Finnish (that come from Finland) defensive midfielder Rasmus Schüller from Swedish club Hacken. They decided too to sign NASL era players which are: Ibson (33 years old Brazilian midfielder that was there with the NASL team) , Minnesota native defender Brent Kallman (which was him to with the NASL  Minnesota team and Venezuela winger Bernardo Anor wich was loaned from Sporting KC last season to Minnesota united FC. He made a total of 91 appearances (in MLS and NASL) scoring 12 goals. So in making those moves they proved that they want to compete in MLS and naturally that they wanna fill their blank player spot. It isn’t easy has Atlanta united FC that have a lot of money. The evidence is that Minnesota united don’t have yet a Designated player.

Yesterday the Vancouver Withecaps made the announcement that they have signed Peruvian forward Yordy Reyna from Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg to a contract through 2018 and an options for 2019 and 2020. He made in total 120 appearances scoring 28 goals and 6 appearances with Peru National Team scoring 2 goals. So I hope it isn’t Vancouver n.9 option for their 2017 season because yes Yordy is a good young talented player but they need cruelly a real DP striker and a n.10 with the lost of Pedro Morales.

Mots recently today there have been two former Manchester city Ghanaian midfielder of Norwegian side Stromsgodset IF sign today by MLS teams. The first one is Mohammed Abu signed by Colombus Crew. He is a 25 years old energetic midfielder that made a total of 101 appearances with Stromsgodset IF scoring 2 goals so this signing is probably to compensate Mohammed Said lost to the MLS expansion draft in December. The second is Bismark Adjei-Boateng. He is 22 years old and in a total of 93 appearances he scored 18 goals. Since 2012 he was loan from Manchester city to Stromsgodset IF.

A lot of free agent signed in the last few days. The 31 years old Houston center back David Horst signed with RSL. Horst return to the team that drafted him back in 2008. ‘Super sub’ forward Alan Gordon (35 years old) signed for Colorado Rapids in two and an half years with the LA Galaxy he made 74 appearances scoring 14 goals. He helped the team to win the MLS cup in 2014. Chad Barrett signed with RSL. He has 12 years of experience in the league. He scored 58 goals in a total of 275 appearances. Houston signed ex Colorado Rapids winger Vincent Sanchez from Defensor Sporting of Uruguay. Sánchez played two season with the Rapids making 52 appearances scoring 11 goals. Finally, DC united signed free agent winger Sebastien Le Toux, 33, was previously with the Colorado Rapids and has also played for the Philadelphia Union, Seattle Sounders, Vancouver Whitecaps and New York Red Bulls. Last season, Le Toux scored 3 goals and made 7 deceives passes in 32 appearances last season.
