Prior to the second meeting with Melvin Manhoef at Bellator 168, we caught up with his opponent and Bellator middleweight champion Rafael Carvalho. The second meeting will take place on December 10th at the Nelson Mandela Forum in Florence, Italy.
December 2nd Update: The bout between Carvalho and Manhoef has been called off due to Manhoef getting injured.
Justin David Kish: Rafael, your back at it again, you will be meeting Melvin Manhoef once again. The last time you guys fought was back in May in which you won via split-decision. How are you currently approaching the second fight between you two?
Rafael Carvalho: My camp is very good, I started my camp at AKA with Javier Mendez, Cain Velasquez and Daniel Cormier and finished in Curitiba with André Dida of Thai evolution. I’ll be better for this fight.
Justin David Kish: Some are building this up as a rivalry fight, is there bad blood between you and Melvin?
Rafael Carvalho: For me there is no bad blood, Melvin it is just another challenge. I look at the fight, and I will knock him out like I did with 80% of my opponents.
Justin David Kish: Are preparations for this fight different than the last camp you had training for this fight?
Rafael Carvalho: Yes, we have another strategy, the camp is much higher than the previous one.
Justin David Kish: When you look at the previous what was one thing you can take from the fight that you will use in the upcoming fight?
Rafael Carvalho: I will not use anything, I will do everything new, I expected a Melvin Manhoef, but he did not come to the fight, Melvim that I fought was a scared fighter, did not want to fight.
Justin David Kish: Would you be open up to having a trilogy fight down the line if the opportunity presents its self?
Rafael Carvalho: There will be no trilogy, because I will knock him out and defeat him for the second time, I think that is enough.
Justin David Kish: Before we let you go, can you give us a quick prediction on how next week’s fight will end?
Rafael Carvalho: I will end up with him sleeping. I’m going to knock him out, he will not be able to get away this time.
