New York Yankees Open To Trading Away Chase Headley
According to FOX Sports Ken Rosenthal, the New York Yankees are open to moving third baseman Chase Headly.
It truly seems like the New York Yankees are starting to become sellers this off season as Headley is not the only player that is on the Yankees trade block. In the last couple of days the New York Yankees have made outfielder Brett Gardner and also for quite sometime Brian McCann’s name has been discussed in trades with the Houston Astros.
The New York Yankees are currently in a transitioning period as they are in the process of getting young as a handful of their vets like Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez both calling it a career. The Yankees have a number of great prospects rising through the system and they are great options for the future but adding pieces to the farm system would be great for the team as well.
The Yankees are likely wanting to move on from Headley due in part of him holding a very hefty contract. Chase Headley is do $35 million dollars over the next couple of seasons and his contract features a $15 million option in 2019. Now, Chase Headley is coming off a very lopsided season in which he started very poor to start the year but was able to rebound and finish the season in decent fashion rounding out the year with a .250 average, 14 home runs and 51 RBI’s.
The trade market could quite be favorable for the Yankees as Headly has gained a lot of trade interest in the past and as well during his current tenure with the New York Yankees. Teams like like the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers could have the most interest but if there is interest from the Dodgers they could be the early favorite due to a much stronger farm system than the Giants.
